Gianluca obtained his MSc degree in Chemical Science cum laude from Università degli Studi di Milano in 2022, under the supervision of Prof. Maurizio Benaglia and Prof. Sergio Rossi. For his Master’s degree, he was awarded the “Ing. Giacomo Bonaiuti” scholarship prize.

He subsequently pursued a PhD in Chemistry at the same university under the supervision of Prof. Anna Bernardi, focusing on the synthesis of selective glycomimetic antagonists of the viral receptor L-SIGN and on the development of novel catalytic strategies to tailor carbohydrate frameworks.

During his doctoral studies, he completed a two-month industrial internship at Dipharma Francis S.r.l. (Baranzate, Italy), working on the scale-up of diazo-transfer reactions, and a six-month research traineeship at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Potsdam, Germany) with Dr. Martina Delbianco, where he focused on the automated synthesis of complex biomolecules. He received his PhD in 2026 with a thesis entitled “Sugar Editing for the Synthesis of Glycomimetics”.

In the same year, Gianluca joined the group at Politecnico di Milano as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. During his free time, he loves cycling, playing football, reading and playing the violin.
